December 13th, 2008
An
early morning accident lands a local man
in jail on drug charges and driving on a
suspended license. Just before 5 am a
vehicle traveling east on Pipkin Rd
failed to stop at the stopsign and
skidded across Hwy 79 and down the
embankment and crashed into the trees.
The driver of the vehicle had a suspended
driver's license at the time of the crash
and was in possession of marijuana.
November
6th, 2008
A local
Bonifay female was arrested and charged
with several counts of Identity Theft,
forgeries, uttering forged instruments,
and several charges are still pending
upon further investigation in the
surrounding areas. The suspect
compromised the identity of a Vernon,
Florida female and was able to obtain a
Florida Identification Card in the
victim's name and opened a checking
account using the false identification
and started writing checks all over the
area in the victim's name. Upon the
notification of law enforcement by the
victim, Officer Carver conducted an
investigation into the crime and at the
time arrest several pieces of mail
belonging to other persons was discoved
in the suspects possession including
financial documents not belonging to the
suspect. The United States Postal
Inspectors were notified and assisted in
searching the residence where evidence
was collected. At this time the Bonifay
Police Department is still attempting to
locate the victims involved and the case
may be turned over to the Federal Bureau
of Investigation for federal
investigation and or charges.

August
20th, 2008
A
Deltona area female was arrested today on
charges of shoplifting while she was at
the local Dollar General Store. The
female entered the store and one of the
clerks observed her concealing items and
then left the store without making a
purchase. The clerk was able to provide a
physical description of the suspect and
the vehicle with the full license plate
number to the police department. A search
was conducted in the immediate area.
Assistant Chief Joe Sallas and Officer
Jasion Carver was able to locate the
vehicle and the female at the local IGA
Store parking lot. After speaking with
the female she admitted to stealing items
from the Dollar General Store and was
positively Identified by the store clerk
and was placed under arrest.
August
19th, 2008
The
Bonifay Police Department responded to a
traffic accident on Hwy 79 in front of
the entrance to the Burger King
restaurant involving a tractor trailer
truck and a small 4-door car. The female
passenger of the car was transported by
EMS to Doctor's Memorial Hospital with
injuries. Upon arrival on scene Officer
Carver spoke to witnesses that stated the
driver of the car was traveling at a high
rate of speed and the truck driver turned
out onto Hwy 79 directly into the path of
the car. Both drivers were issued
citations. After completing the
investigation of the crash, Officer
Carver notified the Department of
Transportation due to the damage
sustained to the truck in the crash. DOT
officers completed an inspection on the
truck and in the process of searching the
truck found a meth pipe in the sleeper
compartment of the truck. Officer Carver
tested the residue tested positive for
Meth. The driver was placed under arrest
and further searching of the truck a can
with 2 small bags with residue amounts of
meth was found in the truck.
August
14th, 2008
The
Bonifay Police Department with the
assistance of local tips was able to
solve 9 local burglaries that occurred
between August 13th & 14th within the
City of Bonifay. Two Alabama men were
arrested in connection to several coke
machines that had been damaged and broken
into over the past 2 days. A local
business owner found one of the suspects
in the process of emptying out the money
from their machine and caused the subject
to flee the seen. A description of the
suspect and the vehicle was given to
local businesses and a tip came in that
the subjects were currently attempting to
gain access to another machine in the
City. The Bonifay Police Officer on duty,
Officer Dale Nye arrived on scene and was
able to place both suspects in custody
without further incident. Surrounding
areas have recently reported simular
occurances within their communities and
could possibly be related.
March
30th, 2008
The
Bonifay Police Department arrested a
local man and 2 juveniles after they
broke into a local liquor store. On
Sunday evening the 3 subjects went to the
liquor store in an attempt to steal
cigarettes. With a citizen tip on the
location of the suspects Officer Jasion
Carver of the Bonifay Police Department
and Deputy Daniel Morris of the Holmes
County Sheriff's Office was able to
locate the suspects at Memorial Field
where they were taken into custody. No
items were taken from the burglary. The
Bonifay Police thanks our citizens for
taking the time to assist law enforcement
with any tips or information about any
crimes they have seen or have knowledge
about.
January
25th, 2008
The
Bonifay Police Department arrested a
local woman on grand theft charges after
someone reported several pieces of
jewelry missing from their residence.
After conducting our investigation it was
found that a cleaning lady removed the
items from the residence and sold them to
a local pawn shop. Several other local
residents have reported missing jewelry
and may be related to this case.
